"When we came to the VLC five years ago, we were hoping my daughter would experience affirmation and encouragement that seemed lacking in her school experience. I am pleased to say we found it." |
Underachievement
Sometimes a parent feels that a child or young adolescent is very bright, yet even if they work hard they do not achieve an outcome on grades equal to their effort. By having poor results in the past they have turned away from school as a place to achieve success. Instead, the sports field or the relationships they have with others is more important. They may practice a variety of avoidance strategies: acting out, not turning in assignments, playing hooky, or putting in only enough effort to pass regardless of their potential to achieve good grades. Poor study habits and organizational skills can also prevent students from achieving a personal best result. A Vancouver Learning Centre assessment can determine what their real potential may be and what areas of genuine difficulty may be interfering with their performance. A plan can be developed and delivered to change the outcome, and therefore in a real sense change their future prospects for success. The process in this case would be a psychoneurological assessment that would lead to an individualized program for the young person. It could also begin with an interview by contacting us.
